Portrait Martin Spalek

Martin Spalek is a research associate and program coordinator in the research area urbanes.land at Biberach University of Applied Sciences. As a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Engineering, he has been responsible at the institute since the beginning of 2018 for the areas of coordination and project management in processes with different stakeholders as well as the development of innovative communication methods and digital tools in planning. Martin has actively helped to establish the research field and therefore has a broad overview of the state of the art of research on urbanized spaces of „medium density“ in Germany and Europe.

Martin studied in Berlin, Biberach and Tampere and has several years of professional practice in project management of large-scale infrastructure planning. A particular focus of his work is on polycentric spatial structures, cartography, financing approaches for collaborative and co-productive sustainable planning, and processes of critical participation and urban development through action.
