Portrait Lorenza

Lorenza Manfredi theoretical and design research observes and promotes transformations of contemporary public space in European cities.

She graduated in Architecture at the Polytechnic of Milan. In 2022, she completed her PhD as a joint project with the Urbanism PhD School at the IUAV University of Venice and the Habitat Unit at the TU Berlin, for which she received DAAD and STIBET grants. Her PhD „Disruptions. Spreeraum Ost, Berlin 1990 – 2020“ investigates the recent reconfiguration of autonomous spaces in Berlin, revealing the ambiguities and unexpected opportunities arising from Berlin’s neoliberal urbanisation and the pragmatic but cynical survival tactics developed by selected case studies.
She has collaborated in teaching activities at the Polytechnic of Turin and with the Habitat Unit of the TU Berlin and led informal design workshops with the collectives of Stellepolari and Simerilab in Italy, Spain and Lebanon. She published articles and book chapters for Springer, Jovis, Transcript, Quodlibet, LetteraVentidue and others.
In Berlin she initiated and managed the project space Officina Neukölln. In Biberach she is currently researching on the hidden potential of stationary traffic area in top location of the cities as part of the BWIM Baden-Württenberg Institut für Nachhaltige Mobilität.
