Portrait Michael Schmölz

Michl Schmölz designs and researches socio-spatial phenomena of our everyday landscapes and landscape related challenges in the field of renewable energies. In addition to his work at urbanes.land, he is a founding member of gruppe dezentral, a doctoral candidate and lecturer at TUM LAREG. In his current dissertation project on a right to landscape – on the use of space in (peri)alpine, urban landscapes, he is investigating concrete spatial structures that depict both immaterial qualities of landscape, such as its private or free use, difference, autonomy and gathering, as well as rules for dealing with it in society, in order to finally reveal them in a socially negotiable way as a demand for a ‚right to landscape‘. He studied landscape architecture and urban studies in Freising, Munich and Malmö, worked in several landscape architecture and urban planning offices and as a research associate at TUM LAREG.
